Soviet Polonne Taras Bulba figurine

Soviet Polonne porcelain figurine of Zaporozhian Cossack.

This figurine was produced in two sizes. Smaller 23 cm were made for sale and bigger ones 49 cm high were made as gifts in a limited edition. The figurine is painted on the glaze. It was produced in 1950 - 1970s period by the Soviet Polonne factory in Ukraine.

Taras Bulba is a character from a historical novella by Nikolai Gogol. His two sons study at the Kiev Academy. the three men set out on a journey to Zaporizhian Sich located in Southern Ukraine, where they join other Cossacks and go to war against Poland.

Taras Bulba figurine is marked. This mark was used in Polonne from 1973. Green color means second quality.
