The Simon & Halbig Porzellanfabrik was founded in 1869 by Wilhelm Simon and Carl Halbig. Production of bisque doll heads started in 1875 but they also made other porcelain items. The company operated two porcelain factories in Gräfenhain and Hildburghausen in Thuringia, Germany.

Simon & Halbig supplied doll heads to many doll makers. In 1902, they started cooperation with  Kämmer & Reinhardt. In 1920, the company was taken over by Kämmer & Reinhardt.

The company continued production until 1932. It was renamed Keramisches Werk Gräfenhain. Production was finally ceased around 1943.

The oldest known Simon & Halbig mark is the SH stamp. In 1875, the “sitting Chinese” was registered as a trademark. In 1888 to the SH mark were added DEP letters. From 1905 onwards, the company mark changed to S & H.
