William Alsager Adderley had been a partner in pottery workshops since the early 1850s. After his business partners died. Adderley started a business of his own in December 1874. Adderley's porcelain and earthenware items were manufactured at the Daisy Bank Pottery, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England.
In 1886, the company was renamed W. A. Adderley & Co. and in 1906, Adderleys Ltd. It operated until 1952. In the 1920s and 1930s, the company was quite successful. During the war, the business was concentrated with Myott, Son & Co. but resumed production as an independent company in 1945.
Adderley also operated Adderley Floral and Figurine China Co Ltd from 1949, and in 1956 it was acquired by Ridgway Potteries Ltd.
Ridgway Potteries Ltd. used the trademarks 'Adderley' and 'Royal Adderley' until 1964 and later "Allied English Potteries Ltd." until 1971.
