Vintage Macau Rose Medallion plate
The plate is enamel painted and gold gilded in a typical Macau Rose Medallion style.
The plate is marked with overglaze red enamel mark. This plate is 26 cm in diameter.
Such Rose Medallion porcelain is easily recognizable. There is often a central medallion with bird or peony in it. Usually there are four panels but on bigger pieces there are more of them. Pastel pink is a dominant color. Other are green, red, blue, yellow and gold.
First Rose Medallion pieces were produced around 1850s. This style was popular in 19th and 20th century. Macau porcelain painting industry was developed during the Cultural Revolution 1965-1975. Difficulties in China proper opened the way for producers operating in this former Portugese colony.
